The Marine Military Academy (MMA) can be found in Harlingen, Texas. It is a private academy for students who are in the college preparatory stage. It was established in 1965. Boys that are in grades 7-12 can enroll there. Students will also receive 1 year of post graduate study. The United States Marine Corps is not in any way affiliated with the school but its ideals and traditions are being upheld here. By chance, you can be associated with the Marine Corps only if you participate in the Junior ROTC program. The school mascot is the bulldog.
SIX GOOD REASONS TO CHOOSE MMA
1) Learning Environment
MMA removes learning distractions by providing a single-gender residence and limiting the use of electronics. The highly structured setting also teaches cadets self-discipline and focus, which positively impacts their study habits and grades.
2) College Acceptance
One hundred percent of MMA graduates are accepted into college. The College Placement Officer ensures every cadet applies to college and helps him seek out scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
3) Location
Just a short drive from the beach, Harlingen has a sub-tropical climate with mild winters. Ice and snow are rare events so cadets can spend more time outdoors. MMA cadets are also exposed to at least three area cultures: American, Mexican and Texan!
4) Unique STEM-Based Programs
MMA offers a variety of STEM-based programs that most public or private schools do not offer. Through the Flight Training program, cadets can earn their pilot’s license in one school year. The Cyberpatriot course teaches cadets to identify and correct computer security threats.
5) Service Academy Appointments
As a Naval Honor School, MMA can nominate its top cadets directly to U.S. service academies, such as the United States Naval Academy. Top MMA cadets have strong chances of receiving appointments to these prestigious academies.
6) Global Community
MMA cadets presently come from 27 states and 17 countries. Cadets live and work with boys of different cultures and beliefs, and they make lifelong friends from across the globe. Many even learn the basics of another language from their friends or roommates.
ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
Academic excellence is created through the actions of a superb faculty, a challenging curriculum and motivated, hard-working students. Year after year, 100% of Marine Military Academy graduates are accepted to college.
Our unwavering commitment to sound academic preparation is reflected by the exemplary scores our cadets post:
- Average GPA improvement of 1.71
- 100% college acceptance rate
- Average SAT score of 1550
- Average ACT score of 21
Additionally, the structure and discipline of the MMA curriculum has proven to aid good boys with a tendency to become distracted or unmotivated. Cadets learn how to study properly and carry these positive habits with them to college and beyond.
Tomorrow’s Leaders
With these credentials, approximately 80% of each year’s graduates enroll in four-year colleges and universities and 20% attend two-year colleges — even if they plan to serve in the branches of the United States military. All because they made a commitment to a new path, and discovered what it truly means to be a part of MMA.
Armed with the self-discipline, commitment and drive, MMA graduates from 2001 through 2016 were accepted to the following four-year institutions:

ADVANTAGES OF BOARDING SCHOOL
Self-Reliance
Boarding school students quickly learn how to perform many domestic chores and complete school assignments by themselves. They become experts at managing their time, money and resources. These students mature quickly and tend to be very independent and successful in college and life.
Fewer Distractions
Boarding school students can focus better on their studies because television, video games, phones and other distractors are limited. These young scholars usually perform better academically because they live in an environment that is conducive to learning.
Cultural Diversity
Boarding school students live and attend classes with people from a variety of cultures; therefore, they learn to appreciate and respect the differences in one another and live amicably. Some may even learn the basics of another language as a result of the friendships they form.
Character Development
Boarding school students are known to graduate with exceptional character and demeanor. They reside in a community where traits such as honesty, respect and hard work are valued and emphasized. These pupils have a moral advantage.
Alternative Activities
Boarding school students are often exposed to a wider range of activities to broaden their learning. They may participate in common sports and activities, such as football and band, or less conventional ones, such as jiu jitsu and flight training.
Fluency in Another Language
Students whose first language is not English often become fluent in English in two semesters through language immersion. Those who stay in boarding school for at least three years typically become bilingual, meaning they can read, write and speak two languages.
Bilingual students possess a valuable skill that gives them a significant advantage in the domestic and international workforce. Studies have also shown that they generally score higher on standardized tests and demonstrate greater problem-solving skills.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
Leadership is not something you’re born with, but rather something every person can acquire over time through hard work, self-discipline and selflessness.
Marine Military Academy has been commissioned to produce the leaders of tomorrow. We provide the structure, discipline, academics and physical training needed to mold all of our young cadets — no matter the personality type — into true leaders, ready to take on the challenges of a modern world.
Blazing A Path
The Military Program at MMA has forged many of the nation’s leaders, providing them with the opportunities, training and experience needed to build themselves holistically — mind, body and spirit.
