Located in the Texas Hill Country, TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas is a coed, college-preparatory school for students in grades 6-12. Its rich history dates back to 1893 when the school was founded by the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas and has grown to become the excellent academic community it is today.  From honors and Advanced Placement courses, a wide range of fine art and athletic activities, and the optional, distinguished JROTC program to the school’s dedication to service and leadership, TMI is a place for students to engage, learn, and grow into the well-rounded leaders of tomorrow.

The Texas Military Institute Episcopal School of Texas is often called TMI for short. This military based boarding school is often listed in the top ten of many private school lists. A selective admission school, TMI boasts a 100% college acceptance rate with many of its alumni attending Ivy League schools.

Location and School Grounds

TMI is located in San Antonio in the state of Texas. Founded in 1893, the school has moved three times. It was first located next to Fort Sam Houston, it then moved to the downtown area of San Antonio. As the city built up and grew in population the school moved to its’ final location in the northwest edge of the city. The buildings on campus are modern and many are built completely from limestone. Buildings of interest include the Frost Athletic Center which includes a rifle range and a half-sized Olympic pool, The All Saints’ Chapel is recognized by top architectural institutes.

High school students live in dormitories which feature granite countertops, custom furniture, laundry facilities and internet access. The headmaster, physician, Chaplin and portion of teaching staff live in houses scattered throughout the campus.

Education

Academics are divided into middle school and upper school. Middle school is grades 6-8 with a general education focus. Middle school students are day students and do not board, middle school students have an option to join the JROTC program with no credit given. Upper school is grades 9-12 with a college preparatory emphasis. This program is also supplemented with Fine Arts, Religion, and JROTC. Honor and AP classes are also available for upper school students. Upper school students do board at campus with a five day or seven day program.

TMI has an average student body of 450 and an average class size of 12 students. With a 100% college placement, past graduates have attended schools such as Baylor, Stanford, Yale and West Point. TMI is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest and the National Association of Episcopal Schools.

Application and Tuition

TMI is a competitive application process, potential students must have a good academic record along with recommendations from teachers. ISEE, SSAT, SAT or PSAT scores must also be submitted. First time students must also attend an open house and meet with the director of admissions.

Middle school tuition is $19,745. Upper school five day tuition is $37,860 and seven day tuition is $41,520. Lunch is included in all tuitions, breakfast and dinner is included for upper school. There are addition fees for day uniforms and JROTC uniforms. The school offers scholarships and tuition assistance.
